Growing Tips
Plant lavenders in well drained soil; if planting in containers use a 50/50 mix of grit and multi purpose compost.
Cut lavenders back at the end of August by 1/2 to 1/3, this will encourage new growth before the winter and help prevent woodiness.
Dead head throughout summer to prolong flowering .
Raise pots in the winter to stop them standing in water which causes root rot and make sure not to over water.
Lavandula Stoechas (French Lavender)
Do not plant in chalky or high alkaline coils as the will suffer with a disease called yellow decline.
Protect tender varieties during winter from frost. (We never sell tender varieties without informing the customer).
Lavandula Angustifolia (English Lavender)
Angustifolia are ideal companion planting for roses, it will keep the aphids down. However when feeding your roses take care not to feed the lavenders as this will encourage green foliage growth and little flower growth.
